Classes
As chainsaw carving has gained in popularity in recent years, There has developed with it an ever increasing need for comprehensive safety education and basic training for handling the tools of the trade. Chainsaws can produce spectacular works of art. However along with that creative edge, they can pose spectacular safety hazards if handled improperly. That is why we feel so strongly about educating our students on the importance of safety measures and careful handling of the chainsaw. We certainly focus a great deal on teaching the basics of chainsaw carving, but first and foremost we want to ensure that we are promoting safe practices in carving.
Along with teaching the basics in carving simple patterns, we strive to offer a comprehensive beginner course that not only covers the basic techniques, but also gives the beginner a glimpse of the more complex and advanced projects. We want to expose our students to the broad spectrum of sculpture art that can be created with a chainsaw. The possibilites are endless when it comes to creating art with a chainsaw and many times, just catching a glimpse of the more intricate pieces can spark that creativity in a novice carver that will spur him on to try new things and further develop his skill. The encouragement and interest they gain from this process allows them to continue on with their own carving more carefully and confidently, having developed a firm grasp of the basic techniques of the trade..
At Sculpture by Doeren, we offer everything from beginner classes to advanced training. In addition to our expert knowledge of sculpture, we also take pride in the extensive equipment training that we provide. We expose our students to a wide array of wood sculpting tools, and focus primarily on the different types of chainsaws that can be used for carving. In this way, we introduce them to the many options and let them experience for themselves the various results that can be attained from using different tools. With over 16 years of experience in chainsaw art, we have an in-depth understanding of the saws and keen insight into how to manipulate them to achieve the desired results.
With the advanced classes, we aim to guide the student through the process of developing an idea, drafting a design, and creating that design in the wood. With beginners, our goal is to have everyone leave with at least one carving under their belt but most importantly the confidence to tackle the next project with confidence.
